I'm one of those photographers too, by the way. I'm also the one who join photo contest as well, and highly disappointed as well.
Just last month, I joined this International Photo Contest ( I don't want to state which program, but it's also related to UNDP).
There were so many rules for this contest which I found very normal because there will be many international participants. Since there are so many rules, I put so many considerations and thoughts into it because I was really looking forward to it even though the prizes were just camera, and reading devices (no brand was stated either). After waiting for the email for so long, I decided to check out the website. Then tah dah! The result was already out because it was online voting!!
Trust me, it's been 2 hours, and I'm still screaming OH MY GOD! HOW!! They pre-selcted 53 photos from each theme according to online voting result. Seriously, I didn't even know it was online voting.
It's true I might not have read all the terms and conditions clearly, but how can that be fair?
So the viewers are judges? People in my country, Cambodia, did not even know that that contest exist! So how could they vote for me?
What boil my blood even more is when I found some photos that do not follow the rules at all!
For instance, photos must be relevant to topic, then there's this pineapple photo at the beach. I still can't relate how that pineapple have anything to do with Climate Change or Ozone Layer.
Another exam is that there are some photos that were edited clearly and obviously! That was totally against the terms and conditions! Yet they are pre-selected for the next stage.
All in all, I just lost faith in justice. I mean online voting cannot decide anything. Those with many friends and/or 'online friend' can easily earn a lot of numbers of votes. Then it's not fair for those whose photos are actually worth winning.
Alright, so tonight is just me whining about this photo contest.
Goodnight everyone!
Love,
December12
